A couple of months ago, we met with a parent from the Boston Slammers and we were immediately inspired by their story. The Bostons Slammers is an all-girls baseball team that is based in Jamaica Plain, but hosts players from all over the Boston area and some from as far as Vermont. We've talked before about our efforts to support the youth in our community and this group of dedicated girls is exactly the type of future leaders that we want to help on their way.
As sponsors for The Boston Slammers, we are spreading the word on their fundraising. The team received a donation of an amazing baseball collectible and it's for auction on eBay: An autographed cleat from Red Sox favorite, Dustin Pedroia. Your bid will help send these girls to Illinois this summer for a national Baseball For All tournament.
Bid now! Help get these girls to Illinois AND own a piece of Red Sox history.
This item was donated by New Balance's Baseball Marketing Division and is an autographed...
More About the Boston Slammers
The Boston Slammers is an all-girls baseball travel team, made up of more than a dozen girls, ages 9-13, from the Boston area and beyond. They have come together over the past two years to strengthen their skills, increase their confidence, scrimmage with other teams and play the sport they love.
Although more and more girls are playing baseball, and they are often overlooked on the field or feel conflicted playing a sport perceived to only be a boy’s sport. And there are certainly not the same opportunities to play on competitive travel teams for girls as there are for boys.
These girls are serious, dedicated and welcome the opportunity for extra playing time. They also laugh and develop strong ties as they share their stories of what it is like to play with all boys. The Slammers offer these girls a unique opportunity to be just a baseball player – not “the girl on the team.”
