Randal:
Can you handle the truth? Stay tuned.

Erik:
Welcome to Stay Focused, Focus Real Estate's weekly video series. And we want to know, when you're working with a professional, can you handle-

Randal:
The truth.

Erik:
... the truth and tough feedback? That's something we in this business, we're hired to give the best professional advice. Sometimes we're walking a sensitive area.

Randal:
Did you ever see that movie Bird on a Wire? Anyway, it may not be 140 stories up but it sometimes feels that way, because really we understand that. Right? We're homeowners.

Erik:
Yep.

Randal:
We know how emotionally invested we are in our home.

Erik:
And you think your home, what you've done to it, your furnishings are just the best.

Randal:
And so, really, when we go into other people's homes, we're like, "How much feedback would you like? How much are you into hearing? How much do you want to do?" Sometimes it's almost nothing. Right? Sometimes we go into houses that-

Erik:
This is great. This is what buyers are looking for.

Randal:
This is what buyers are looking for.

Erik:
You don't need to do much.

Randal:
But really, our job is to guide you, because you know, I haven't met a seller in a long time that said, "Hey Randal, listen. I want to get 85% of the value of my home." People want the highest value for their home. Right? So that's our job is to help guide them into that position. Right? So-

Erik:
And sometimes we have to tell them they need to make some changes that they don't want to hear or maybe weren't even aware of.

Randal:
You know, it is kind of a line that we walk, and we do certainly want to take into consideration other people's feelings. I think, if you know me, I'm not going to just walk all over you, but I will certainly give you the feedback that you need. And it's fine to say, "Hey Randal, great idea to paint that room blue, but I'm not going to do it." Fine.

Erik:
So, fine. It'll cost you $10,000 for not doing it, but it's your choice and it's your money. My job is to give you that feedback.

Randal:
But we're here to give you that honest, tough, frank feedback if you need it. And then also that goes onto the buyer side too.

Erik:
Exactly.

Randal:
You know, that isn't just for sellers in our marketplace. That can sometimes be for buyers, like, "Yeah, no. This isn't right. I know this isn't what you've told me that you and your family are looking for. I think we need to keep moving."

Erik:
Or, "What you're looking for is not realistic. I know it would be idealistic, but it's not realistic. You're not going to find it. And by talking to other agents, it's not going to make a difference. That's not this market. That property does not exist in this place, in this price that you're looking."

Randal:
So I'll be looking forward to conversations that I have after this video. Right? And they are fun, because I love working with people in that capacity. And really, that is how we've trained our team as well is to work with people on a level that is honest and sincere and-

Erik:
Real.

Randal:
... and real.

Erik:
We're not just going to tell you what you want to hear and let you be disappointed later.

Randal:
So, that's a little bit of our value statement there for you and kind of helping you guys get to your goals, because really, at the end of the day, what this is about is helping you get to the goals, whatever they are, in and around your home.

Erik:
Yeah, and so if you have any feedback for us, we can handle it.

Randal:
We can handle it. Bring it on.

Erik:

Yeah.
