What You Need To Do Before You Put Your Home on the Market

Jaime:
Eric, I have a bunch of sellers looking to put their house on the market. Any advice?

Eric:
Stay tuned for some tips.

Jaime:
Tip number one is be prepared. So you'll want to get in contact with a real estate agent actually much sooner than you probably think when you're trying to list your home. Agents are actually market experts, so they're going to be able to give you the best advice on things like what your timeline should be, how quickly you should be planning on being out of that house, and then other little miscellaneous tips for around the house.

Eric:
In the Boston area, things are moving super fast right now. A lot of properties are going in a week so it's very, very important for you to have all that information up hand so that you can be prepared.

Jaime:
Tip number two and another reason you'd want to speak with an agent sooner rather than later is because we can give you advice like paint your house. Get it ready.

Eric:
It's a really inexpensive way of getting your home ready and in the best light that it can show. We like neutrals, right?

Jaime:
We do. So grays, blues, off whites, anything that would kind of put a neutral pallet on your house to make it a little bit more approachable.

Eric:
One other small thing you can do is new appliances. It's a few thousand dollars to get some new appliances and it just freshens your space up and actually it makes the impression that your kitchen is actually newer than it is.

Jaime:
So I think we can all relate to purchasing a home, walking in and then seeing these little tiny house improvements that you always meant to get around to fix but you never actually did.

Eric:
We actually work with a great team of handymen that can come through, do it all in a Jiffy.

Jaime:
Exactly. Tip number three would be to maximize your space and declutter as much as possible. So we all have those little knick knacks resting around the house. Things that you don't need anymore, the buyers don't need anymore, and actually do not even want to see. So it could actually help you on your new move to your new place as well, because you'll have to bring less stuff with you to your new house or condo.

Eric:
They want to be able to picture themselves in their space so anything that's kind of personalized like that, just put it away.

Jaime:
Exactly. Put it in a cabinet, hide them.

Eric:
Until next time, stay tuned and stay focused.

Jaime:
Stay tuned and stay focused.

Jaime:
Thank you for staying tuned or being here. Listen to me rambling on.
